County Council reviews translation
service
Newark-based communications specialist AURA PR has been awarded
a contract to help Nottinghamshire County Council review its
translation and interpretation services.
In a bid to be clear about how the Council meets the needs
of every member of the community it serves, Nottinghamshire
has chosen a communications approach to assess needs, identify
appropriate standards and best practice and consider ways
of delivering the translation and interpretation service.
Equalities legislation means all public bodies, including
local authorities, have a duty to provide equality of access
to public services.
The work is particularly relevant for anyone who has a disability
and prefers information in, for example, Braille, large print
or sign language, or for anyone who does not speak English
as a first language and requires information to be translated.
The purpose of the review is to ensure the Council has appropriate
translation and interpretation policies and practices in place
to ensure the needs of every member of the local community
are met.
AURA PR will consult with community groups on translation
and interpretation needs, investigate best practice across
other public bodies and help draw up recommendations to the
Council on ways it can improve its service.
