Landmark proposal for the east
midlands
Client: Sky Vault project team
The Great East Midlands Landmark competition in November
2001 was won by the Sky Vault project team 2hD who designed
a mesh of thin steel cables and supporting arches that could
span any major transport route in the region.
A landscaped pavilion next to the landmark will lead visitors
to the Sky Vault where they will descend into a room below
ground level.
People will be able to digitally access experiences of life
in the region with words and images recorded from collective
and individual viewpoints.
AURA PR recently issued a press release on behalf of the
Sky Vault project team, revealing the five sites that had
been short-listed as possible hosts for the Sky Vault landmark.
The release prompted articles in regional daily newspapers,
including the Nottingham Evening Post, Lincolnshire Echo,
Derby Evening Telegraph and the Leicester Mercury.
It was also featured in weekly newspapers, including the
Grantham Journal and the Coalville Times, and was the front-page
story of the Newark Advertiser that week.
The release also prompted articles on BBC Online and a radio
phone-in on BBC Radio Northamptonshire.
The Sky Vault team is keen to press home key messages about
the project, such as the idea that it will be a landmark for
the East Midlands as a whole, but it has had to handle negative
comments and opinions in, for example, newspaper articles.
AURA PR has advised team and board members on managing negative
publicity and has prepared a series of guidelines to be followed.
AURA PR is also in the process of organising a series of
media training workshops for Sky Vault board members.
